A CRUCIAL MOMENT IN WORLD HISTORY
What an extraordinarily distressing day to wake to news of the start of a major war in Europe in the 21st century. Some of the images already coming out of Ukraine are heartbreaking.
Where will this all end? If the West doesn’t act together and strongly today, what signal does that send? How far will Putin go after Ukraine? Where will he stop?
The time for lip-service diplomacy and piecemeal sanctions is over. The only thing bullies respond to is strength. Declare Putin a war criminal, freeze all Russian assets everywhere, get urgent financial and military aid to Ukraine, get real peacekeepers into the region and – I hate to say it – put troops on standby.
For sure, pacifism does not deter bullies. It fuels them.
This really could be the start of World War III. And I fear it might not just be Putin. Will China see this as an opportunity to invade Taiwan while we’re all distracted? The echoes from history are deafening and terrifying!
